A calf looking through the rails of a farm fence on a New Zealand farm
The problem

Trading stock in New Zealand hasn’t changed in a long time

You truck your animals to the yards. You wait to see what the day gives you. Then you pay a commission on whatever that turns out to be.

It’s a big ask — and an added expense — to truck them back to the farm if they don’t sell for what you were hoping. It’s usually just easier to shrug it off and accept what the market offers that day.

But what if it could be different? What if you could leave your stock right where they are, set your own price and be the one to make the final call on whether to sell or hold? And if you accept an offer, keep every dollar from that sale? Welcome to Paddock.

How it works

List it. Price it. Deal direct.

  • 01

    List your mob

Numbers, breed, weights, age, location, a few photos. Ten minutes of your time and your listing goes live.

  • 02

    Set your price

Per head or per kilo, on your terms. You decide what your stock is worth, not the day. You can compare your expectations against our benchmark data. Set a Buy Now price too, if you want the deal done faster.

  • 03

    Deal with the buyer

A buyer makes you an offer, or takes your Buy Now price and it’s done. Talk to each other and ask questions in our in-app chat. Paddock helps the buyer sort the transport. Payment settles directly.

  • Browse, buy and sell the easy way

Once you’re in, you can browse, create a listing, buy stock at a buy now price or make an offer. You can ask a seller questions via our in-app chat and arrange a time to go view the stock if they’re nearby. Use our handy map view feature to see what is listed near you, so you have the option to buy local.

  • Paddock keeps the record straight

Everyone trading on Paddock is bound by our terms and conditions. A buyer is required to confirm they hold the funds to go through with a deal. Buyers and sellers get an order summary which allows the buyer to choose their preferred transport company and details are automatically forwarded to the company to make the arrangements. The seller can send an invoice in-app for payment and it lands in everyone’s email inbox for easy logging in farm accounting software. Money moves from one farmer’s account to the other — Paddock doesn’t get in the way. Meanwhile, the chat window stays open to talk to each other the whole way through. Any problems — the Paddock team will do their best to help.

All for a monthly subscription fee — a fraction of what it costs to use a stock agent.

A first look at the app

See what is listed near you

Here is a little preview of the first version of Paddock. Our fav feature is definitely map view. You can easily see what is listed nearby and click on the icons to see the relevant listing. If you’re a seller — your listing shows the general area your stock is in, never your exact address. A buyer only gets that once you’ve agreed a deal and they need it to pick the stock up. And we have no public browsing — if you’re not a registered farmer, you can’t see inside Paddock.

  • The Paddock app’s Buying screen, with species buttons and stock listings

Browse listings by species, or search for what you need.

  • The Paddock app’s map view, showing listings around Timaru and Temuka

See what is for sale near you on the map.

  • A Paddock listing for Friesian bull calves, with photos and a price per head

List your stock with photos and video, and set your own price.

  • The Paddock app’s Watchlist screen, with a saved search for Canterbury

Save a search and keep an eye on new listings.

Pricing

A flat fee, not a cut of your work

Register for Paddock and pick a trading plan — the best news? It’s completely free from launch until 1 March 2027. If you love us and want to stick around, choose from our Basic, Pro or Premium subscriptions. The only thing separating them is how many trades you do, so if you sell one big line a year, the cheapest plan has you covered. Got a large line you’d like a hand with? Give us a shout. And the best part of all — every dollar you make on the sale of your stock is yours to keep. Zero commission.

You can’t sign up just yet — we’re still getting ready to invite farmers in. Join the waitlist →

  • Basic

    $50 a month

2 trades in any 12 months

  • Pro

    $150 a month

Up to 10 trades in any 12 months

  • Premium

    $300 a month

    Unlimited trades

Free until 1 March 2027 — and if you join in the last month before that, you still get your first 30 days free. Your plan’s trade allowance only starts when your free period ends, and the trades you make before then don’t count against it. Prices exclude GST. A trade is a buy or a sell. You can cancel any time.

The difference matters most when things go well.

A percentage takes more from you the better the price — so the harder you’ve worked, the more it costs. Our subscription fee doesn’t move. Whatever your stock makes, the fee is the same.

  • We also cover the card processing costs rather than passing them on.
  • We don’t touch the money for the stock itself. That settles directly farmer to farmer.
Trust

None of this works unless farmers trust each other

  • We’re starting in the south

We’d rather your first trades on Paddock were with someone from your own patch — a name you know, or one phone call away from a name you know. That’s what makes a platform like Paddock worth trusting, so we’re starting with our South Island networks before heading north. If you want Paddock to come to you sooner, let us know!

  • Real people on the end of the phone

Someone who knows stock, not a chatbot and not a ticket number. Ask us for help and we’ll give you a call.

  • We won’t leave you hanging

Deals fall through sometimes — we know that, we’re farmers too. When a trade doesn’t go to plan, our team will jump in and help work out a solution. We take trust seriously here.

Who we are

Built by farmers, for farmers

The idea for a trading platform for farmers had been brewing for awhile... and in mid-2026, South Canterbury neighbours Sam Innes and Kim Savage decided to team up to bring Paddock to life.

  • Sam Innes, co-founder of Paddock

    Sam Innes

    Co-founder

Sam grew up on a high country station in Mackenzie and now flies helicopters and farms with his wife Annie and three sons in Levels Valley, South Canterbury. Sam - bitten by a poor experience at the saleyards - came up with the idea of a digital platform to connect farmers with each other. He wants to see farm trading made easier, more efficient and see more money on farm with the people who do the hard yards. Sam looks after our farmer and industry relationships.

  • Kim Savage, co-founder of Paddock

    Kim Savage

    Co-founder

From Hawkes Bay originally, Kim moved with her family to her husband Sam's hometown of Pleasant Point in 2021. A few months in, she was on the 4am lambing beat learning all about life on a farm and in a rural community. Kim is a former TV and radio journalist and professional storyteller. She reckons Paddock is by far the best story she's had the privilege of telling. Kim also puts her technical skills to use as the co-founder responsible for our platform development.

Questions farmers are asking

When can I use it?

We're inviting farmers into the app soon, starting with the South Island, before coming to the North Island. Join our waitlist and we'll let you know when it's available in your area.

What does it cost?

Paddock is completely free from launch until 1 March 2027 — and if you join in the last month before that, you still get your first 30 days free. Your trades are unlimited for the whole free period.

After that you're on the plan you picked: Basic is $50 a month for 2 trades in any 12 months, Pro is $150 a month for up to 10, and Premium is $300 a month for unlimited trades. It's a rolling 12 months rather than an annual reset, so a trade stops counting once it's a year behind you. The trades you make during your free period don't count at all. Prices exclude GST, and a trade is a buy or a sell.

You can cancel any time, and you won’t pay commission on your sale — you keep every dollar.

Does Paddock handle the payment for the stock?

No. That goes directly between buyer and seller, exactly as it does now. We only charge a monthly subscription fee, billed to your card through our payment partner, Stripe.

Can I still use my agent?

Paddock is built for farmers to deal with each other directly, so we aren't designing for agents specifically. We welcome agents to sign up and participate in our networks if they want to.

Nothing stops you taking advice from whoever you normally would before you list or before you buy — that's your business. You can also ask our team for advice if you're not sure — just use our handy request button once we're live.

What stock can I list?

Sheep, cattle and deer.

Who can see my listing?

Only registered farmers. We have no public browsing — if you're not a registered farmer, you can't see inside Paddock. Your listing shows the general area your stock is in, not your exact address.

Once you and a buyer agree a deal, they get your address and contact details so the trade can actually happen, and if they book transport through us the carrier gets the pickup address too. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what is shared and when.

Who sorts the transport?

The buyer does. Once a deal is done, buyer and seller both get an order summary. The buyer chooses their preferred transport company from it, and the details are automatically forwarded to the company to make the arrangements. Fewer phone calls and a streamlined process makes this more efficient for everyone.

What if the buyer doesn't pay?

Everyone trading on Paddock is bound by our terms and conditions, and a buyer is required to confirm they hold the funds before going through with a deal. Deals still fall through sometimes — we know that, and we won't leave you hanging. Our team are happy to jump in and help work out a solution when a trade doesn't go quite to plan. We take trust seriously at Paddock.

What happens if my stock doesn't sell?

Ask us for help finding a buyer and we'll see what we can do. If you sell elsewhere or change your mind before you receive an offer you're happy with, pull your listing at no cost to you. Zero risk. You can cancel your subscription any time — as long as you don't have any deals in progress.

If I'm mid-deal with someone, can I change my mind?

Give us a buzz in-app or contact our support team and we'll see how we can help.
